South Dakota State University needed to add a new Chiller Plant to accommodate growth of its campus. It was to be an unstaffed, efficient and low-operating-cost facility with capacity for expansion. Design engineer of record Greg Kronaizl, P.E., said the design initially specified steel pipes, but as plans developed for the plant, use of steel presented challenges.
