At Farris, giving back to communities is part of our company’s commitment. Last month, Donna, a fire protection engineer in our Omaha office, received the Student Mentor Award from the Society of American Military Engineers.

“I was recognized for the many years I’ve volunteered in the SAME student mentoring program. I think it is a small effort that helps ensure the engineering discipline remains strong for the future,” said Donna.

In 2006, Donna started mentoring middle school teams before moving up to the high school level. Following mentoring for several years, she was asked to start judging and has been doing that for the past 10 years.

“I find this to be a very worthwhile and enjoyable program to volunteer my time,” she said. “The students are bright and imaginative, and I find I learn as much from them as they learn from the program.”

Congratulations Donna and thank you for volunteering your time to help develop our future engineers!
